Naturally accessing your subconscious in a deeply relaxed state
ABOUT HYPNOTHERAPY
🌿
What is Hypnotherapy?
Often called hypnosis therapy, it's a form of self-hypnosis practiced in a deeply relaxed state. You remain conscious throughout, gently following imagery to process thoughts and emotions through your subconscious.
💫
Who is it for?
Those who experience unexplained emotions, find themselves repeating the same patterns, tend to be self-critical, want to revisit their relationship with their parents, or have unresolved issues they'd like to work through will find this especially beneficial.
✨
What can you expect?
1Deep Relaxation The autonomic nervous system shifts to parasympathetic dominance, releasing physical tension. Many clients feel noticeably lighter afterward.
2Emotional Release Gradually accessing suppressed emotions and allowing them to surface brings a profound sense of release and relief.
3Deeper Self-Insight Uncovering the root of an issue creates a powerful sense of clarity — many clients describe things finally 'clicking'.
4Greater Self-Efficacy Limiting beliefs of 'I can't' begin to loosen, giving rise to stable inner confidence and an expanded sense of possibility.

Inner Child Work (Positive & Negative Regression)▼
Memories and experiences are linked together by similar emotional tags. By tracing the emotional root beneath current feelings, we can gently access and begin to heal unresolved emotions from the past. Positive Regression revisits nurturing experiences; Negative Regression compassionately faces difficult ones. Together they help unravel early patterns and ease present-day struggles.
Past Life Regression (personal & with family)▼
For issues without a clear cause or recurring patterns, this approach uses imagery expressed as past-life experiences to gently explore and release them. Through visualization, verbal expression, and emotional re-experiencing, we work to bring clarity and resolution. Family past-life sessions offer a fresh perspective on current relationships, often revealing new understanding and openness to change.
Meet Your Best Self▼
A session to reconnect with the talents and energy your soul has always carried within you.

Guided by Rima's gentle voice, I felt as if my body was floating. All the rushing thoughts — work, home, my to-do list — the tension I didn't even realize I was carrying just melted away. It was a strangely beautiful feeling.
A deep sense of gratitude welled up for the people around me and for myself. I felt genuinely full and at peace. I had a quiet realization: it's okay just as I am. I want to live more gently, with gratitude, surrounded by the music I love.
When my heart lightened, my daughters seemed to notice — they were sweeter, more affectionate, their smiles wider. Feeling my own heart ease, and seeing that reflected in my family's sense of safety and happiness — that was the greatest gift of that day.
To every mama out there who puts herself last, pouring everything into her family and work — I truly hope you get to feel this lightness too, and let it become your family's peace and joy as well.

Suggestion & Past Life Regression
I received my session via FaceTime, connecting between the US and Japan. I'm 72 years old — I never attended a music conservatory, but earned my Yamaha teaching certification and have been teaching piano ever since. I'm very sensitive to other people's words and tend to get hurt easily.
As I followed Rima's guidance, I felt my body gradually releasing. It was as if all the tension just melted away — my mind became clear and still. Tears came naturally. I felt as though a part of me that had been holding on so tightly was finally set free. A spontaneous sense of gratitude rose up from somewhere deep inside.
After the Past Life Regression
I found myself as a tiny point in the vast universe — and in that image, all my worries seemed so small, almost absurd. I also revisited the warm, peaceful feeling of being in my mother's womb. I came to feel that who I am today exists because of my past lives, and I was filled with deep gratitude. Something shifted — I began turning my attention toward myself, rather than always looking outward. I also learned just how important it is to take one full, deep breath.

Past Life Regression
As I listened to the gentle, unhurried words, I slipped right in. My body felt light — like passing through a tunnel. Then I arrived in a world of ice. I was Sally, a 24-year-old woman with blonde hair in a white dress. The wind was blowing, and there was a divine light — I could even see the Northern Lights. I was filled with a deep, satisfying sense of happiness.
Next, I was in a small wooden cabin in the mountains — somewhere like Canada or Switzerland — baking bread. A simple, joyful life surrounded by nature. A small painting of a jar on the wall left a strong impression on me.
Then I was in a church, my face calm, surrounded by people.
It felt so real — and I came away feeling gentle, full, and at peace. I'm usually a positive person, but I felt even more so afterward. My sense of self-worth grew, and I was able to sort through some deep emotions. The message that came through was: "Live at your own pace."

Past Life Regression with Family
I've always been curious about the bond between myself and my children, so I decided to try a past life regression session. I was nervous at first, but along the way I found myself in tears, and then laughing at the things I found myself saying — it was a truly fascinating experience.
Afterward, I realized that the words I had spontaneously spoken out loud were coming straight from my subconscious — and through them, I became aware of what I'm really seeking right now. I'm also curious about suggestion sessions, so I'm hoping to try one next time!

Past Life Regression
I had been questioning whether to pursue a completely new path — something entirely different from my career so far — and wasn't sure if I was making the right choice. I came to the session without looking too much into hypnotherapy beforehand, not knowing if I'd be able to reach a deeper state of consciousness. But Rima's words gently led the way, and I was able to discover so much more than I expected.
I came away feeling as though I'd been given permission to stay the course — a quiet reassurance that where I am is okay. At the same time, I also realized that something I thought I had already moved past hasn't been fully resolved yet. I'm not rushing to confront it, but I was reminded that healing sometimes takes longer than we think it does.
Throughout the session, Rima checked in with me gently and helped me organize my thoughts as they arose. I would especially recommend this to anyone who is starting something new, who has just begun, or who is still finding their way.

Welcome
Have you been putting everyone else first for so long, you’ve forgotten what you actually need? Somewhere along the way, it’s easy to lose touch with what you actually want. In the rush of daily life, the quiet signals from your mind and body are usually the first thing to get set aside. This is a space to pause, and to listen to them again.
Coming to Therapy
Whatever you’re carrying, it’s enough to begin.
Are you carrying a heaviness you can’t quite name?
Therapy isn’t reserved for people in crisis or with a diagnosis. A vague sense of feeling heavy, disconnected, or stretched thin is reason enough. If you don’t yet have the words for what you’re carrying, that’s okay too — you don’t need to arrive with a clear story.
In therapy, we don’t treat your symptoms as problems to eliminate. Anxiety, low mood, tension in the body, emotional overwhelm — these are ways your system has tried to protect you. They made sense given what you’ve lived through, even if they’re no longer serving you well.
We’ll work with what feels most pressing now, and — when you’re ready — explore where these patterns came from and what they’ve been carrying on your behalf. Your culture, identity, and history are welcome here. All of you, not just the parts that fit easily into words.

A Gentle Honesty
Is this work a fit?
There’s no perfect way to know in advance. Here are a few honest notes that may help you sense whether we might be a good match. If you’re unsure, the free 20-minute consultation is exactly for this — we can feel into it together.
This may be a good fit if you
Want to sit with what feels heavy or unspoken, rather than rush past it
Are open to working with the body and senses, not only the mind
Are interested in lasting change, not quick fixes
Are curious about how early experience and inner “parts” shape your life now
Want your cultural background and lived experience honored, not bracketed off
Are willing to move at your own pace, even if that pace is slow
Notice yourself falling into the same patterns again and again — and want to understand why
Another form of support may fit better if you
Are seeking quick tools or immediate advice without a longer process
Are in acute crisis with imminent risk of harm to self or others
Are managing acute psychiatric symptoms, severe active substance use, or ongoing violence requiring immediate intervention
Are not open to between-session reflection or inward work
Prefer in-person therapy (sessions are currently online only)
Our Work Together
How the work unfolds
From your first step to lasting change — here’s a sense of how we move through the work together.
01
A Free 20-Minute Consultation
A brief conversation, by phone or video, so we can get a sense of each other. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, how I work, and whether this feels like a fit. There’s no pressure to continue afterward — this is a chance for both of us to listen and decide.
02
The First Session
A more spacious meeting, where you share what feels relevant — your story, your present, your body — at whatever pace feels right. Together we begin to shape what our work might focus on, and what kind of rhythm might suit you best.
03
Ongoing Sessions
Fifty-minute sessions, online. We move between body and feeling, between past and present, between the different parts of you that need attention. Hypnotherapy elements may be woven in when they’d serve the work — always at your pace, never imposed. Weekly sessions are typical, but we can adjust to what you need.
04
Integration and Change
As insights from sessions begin to settle into daily life, we look at what is shifting, what still asks for attention, and — when the time feels right — how to bring our work to a thoughtful close. Therapy can pause and restart. If you ever feel the pull to return, I’m here.

Rima Miyagawa
California Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist · LMFT #154640
Certified Hypnotherapist
Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator
Hello
Hi, I’m Rima.
I’m a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist offering online psychotherapy in both English and Japanese — to clients in California, and to Japanese speakers living in Japan.
Originally from Gifu, Japan, I moved to the U.S. at 19. After community college and a state university, I completed my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Santa Clara University. Following over 3,000 hours of supervised clinical training, I’ve been in practice for 7+ years, have lived in the Bay Area for 17+ years, and am a mother of two.
Living between languages and cultures has shaped me in ways both rich and tender — I know firsthand what it’s like to navigate that in-between space. Beginning therapy takes real courage, especially when you’re carrying something hard to name. My hope is to walk alongside that step quietly, without rushing the parts of you that still need time.
How I Work
My presence and approach
What I value above all is creating a non-judgmental space where you feel safe, heard, and free to be yourself. I follow your pace. There’s no “right” way to talk or feel in our sessions. Silence is welcome. So is bringing in something that doesn’t yet have words.
I work as a somatic psychotherapist, integrating approaches such as mind-body connection, psychodynamic understanding, and CBT — while also exploring through different modalities such as expressive art and hypnotherapy. I weave these together based on what feels most helpful for you.
Somatic Work
We pay close attention to the body and nervous system. Stress, tension, and emotional overwhelm aren’t problems to eliminate — they’re signals worth listening to. As your nervous system feels safer, deeper emotions become easier to work with.
Psychodynamic & Inner Child
We explore how early relationships still shape the way you connect, protect yourself, and move through the world. Together, we make space for the younger parts of you that may still carry fear, loneliness, or unmet needs.
Hypnotherapy
I’m a certified hypnotherapist (SORA Hypnosis, 2026). When it would serve our work, I integrate gentle hypnotherapy to support relaxation, nervous system regulation, and deeper self-awareness. Standalone 90-min sessions are also available.
"Real liberation comes not from glossing over or repressing painful states of feeling, but only from experiencing them to the full."

Free 20-Minute Phone Consultation
20 minutes / Free
Before booking, let’s have a brief call to get a sense of each other. In 20 minutes, we can:
·Share what’s bringing you to therapy, at your own pace
·Walk through how sessions work, my approach, and fees
·Address any questions you have

The “fit” between client and therapist matters more than almost anything else in therapy. There’s no obligation to continue afterward — even if you’re just curious, you’re welcome to reach out.
⚠ A Note on Urgent or Crisis Situations
This is an outpatient practice, not a 24-hour crisis service. I’m unable to work with clients in acute crisis — including imminent risk of harm to self or others, acute psychiatric symptoms, severe active addiction, or ongoing violence requiring immediate intervention.
If you or someone you love is in crisis, please reach out to emergency services directly: call 911, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), or go to your nearest emergency room. These services are equipped to provide the immediate care that crisis situations require.
Confidentiality
A note on confidentiality
What you share in therapy is confidential, with limited exceptions required or permitted by law. Here’s what that means — and the few legal exceptions.
Therapy needs to be a place where you can speak freely. As a California LMFT (#154640), I’m bound by strict confidentiality under California law, HIPAA, and my profession’s ethical standards. What you share belongs to you.
Without your written consent, session content and records are not shared with third parties (family members, other providers, employers, insurance companies, etc.).
— Legal Exceptions to Confidentiality —
Under California law, there are a few specific situations in which I am legally required to report or disclose information:
·Suspected abuse or neglect of a child (under 18), an elder (65+), or a dependent adult
·Imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or to another identifiable person
·A court order requiring the release of records
These exceptions exist for safety. Whenever possible, I’ll discuss any necessary disclosure with you first. Questions are welcome at our consultation.
